Ice cubes are simply cubed pieces of ice used to cool down drinks. Some expensive fridges have ice makers, but most people just use an ice cube tray over plastic artificial ice cubes. Don’t tell your Ayurvedic practitioner about them, as they don’t agree with drinking chilled drinks! But if you like your ice as nice in a drink, then try some of these recipes. If you take medication, check the paper inserts as some people should not take excessive green leafy vegetables or grapefruit.
Floral Ice Cubes (Jillian Harris) are just so pretty. Ideal to cool down your drink, and leaving floating blooms in it too! Just ensure you choose safe edible flowers for this recipe.
Coconut Water & Fruit Ice Cubes (May I Have That Recipe?) are a cool way to jazz up a drink, and stay hydrated at the same time. Ideal summer recipe.
Iced Vegan Smoothie Cubes
Frozen Green Smoothie Cubes (Food with Feeling) make it easy to make a green smoothie. You can then adjust the liquid and add some fruit, for a quick smoothie when you fancy one.
Superfood Smoothie Cubes (From My Bowl) are made with banana, berries, zucchini (courgette), leafy greens, nut butter and cinnamon. Just thaw the cubes then blend with filtered water (or plant milk, for a thicker smoothie).
Green Smoothie Gourmet has a recipe for 6 flavours of iced smoothie cube concentrates. The night before, just plop a few cubes in a class, and chill to thaw. Next morning, just blend with half a cup of liquid. Choose from:
- Pink (pitaya berry)
- Yellow (mango)
- Purple (acai blackberry)
- Blue (spirulina, check for contraindications)
- Orange (carrot citrus)
- Green (leaves!)
